ITAK Stage

This intimate and unique black-box theater is equipped with theater lightning and sound systems and features a 106-seat auditorium with rising seating that can be folded away as needed.

The ITAK Stage has a ceiling height of approximately 4 meters, and the stage area is 10 meters wide and 10 meters deep. The back wall of the stage features a black velvet curtain, and the floor is painted black. A black and white dance mat covering the entire stage area is available for use.

The ITAK stage is a space owned by the City of Kuopio. The Regional Dance Center of Eastern Finland manages the use of the space and rents it out to other organizations.

The ITAK Stage is regularly used by subtenants of the Regional Dance Center of Eastern Finland, such as Savonia University of Applied Sciences. Performances by the Savonia University of Applied Sciences Department of Music and Dance, as well as events by other partners and cultural organizations, are held at the ITAK Stage throughout the year.

Where is the ITAK Stage located?

The ITAK Stage is located in Kuopio’s historic barracks area at Suokatu 42/2. The building is also known locally as “Sotku,” as it previously served as a military home (sotilaskoti).

Good landmarks near the ITAK Stage include the Kuntolaakso Swimming Hall, the Kuopio Ice Hall, Puistokartano, and the City Council and Administrative Building. The public entrance to performances is located on the side of the building facing the City Council Office Building. The office door is on the opposite side of the building.

Parking near the ITAK Stage

The ITAK Stage does not have its own parking lot for customers. We recommend arriving at performances by public transportation, bicycle, or on foot. If necessary, you can park on the street in the neighborhood or, after 4:00 PM, in the Adult Education Center parking lot. The P-Kuntolaakso paid parking lot is located at Hannes Kolehmaisen katu 5.

Accessibility of the ITAK Stage

The ITAK Stage has a threshold-free entrance via a ramp. The outer door is approximately 93 cm wide, and the inner door is approximately 83 cm wide. The outer door opens outward and is heavy. Inside, there are threshold-free passages from one room to another. The auditorium has two wheelchair spaces. The premises have an accessible restroom and clear signage.

The nearest accessible parking lot is located next to the Kuopio Adult Education Center on the other side of Suokatu. Temporarily, you can also drive directly in front of the ITAK Stage.
