Tavis Dance Company research group is open to those who have previously participated in the training group; it focuses more specifically on performance and movement. The group will meet in Kuopio in May for a two-day intensive course.
This spring, the Tavis Dance Company research group will delve into the study of rituals that emerge through personal and group interaction.
The work is movement-based and aims to produce a visual outcome in the form of photographs. The weekend will be divided between movement work on the ITAK stage and taking photographs on location. The research group’s work is guided and facilitated by Anna-Maria Väisänen, and Karri Lämpsä serves as the group’s photographer.
Anna-Maria Väisänen
Anna-Maria Väisänen is a dance artist and socionomist whose work focuses on exploring the performing arts, community-based processes, and issues of inclusion. At the heart of Väisänen’s artistic practice is an interest in how the body and movement serve as gateways to human connection. Equally essential is participatory dialogue, which creates space for collective exploration and insight.
What is the Tavis Dance Company's research group?
The TDC research group aims to create spaces where movement functions as dialogue, research, and experience, inviting participants into a creative process and shared insight.
The research group offers the opportunity to continue dancing in a more goal-oriented environment and meets the need to dance more often than just once a week. We recommend the research group to those who have already been part of Tavis Dance Company’s training group.
As its name suggests, the group explores the goals, possibilities, and dreams of Tavis Dance Company. The group’s overall goal is to steer TDC in a more goal-oriented direction as a performing dance group that makes an impact in the arts scene. Together with the group, we will develop Tavis Dance Company’s activities in a more dialogic manner, plan future goals, and map out the wishes of Tavis dancers.
In addition to dancing, the research group will explore choreography and composition, as well as photography and video work this year.
